Chholar dal (yellow peas) - 250 gm
Oil - 3 to 4 Tablespoons
Cumin seeds - 1 Tablespoon
Ginger - ½ Tablespoon, grated
Bay leaves - 4 to 5
Green chillies - 1 to 2, chopped
Coconut - ½ cup, grated
Turmeric - ½ Tablespoon
Sugar - ½ Tablespoon
Asafoetida - a pinch
Water - 2 cups

Method
Boil chholar dal in.
Heat oil in pan add asafoetida, cumin, bay leaves and grated ginger.
Also add chopped chilles, grated coconut, salt, sugar and turmeric.
Fry for sometime.
Pour the boiled dal in the pan.
Cook for some more time and serve hot with plain white rice.
